MMMC 2008 Cost Breakdown

In the spirit of transparency, we are sharing the costs associated with putting the MMMC retreat. Please let us know if you would like more detailed information about our budget, or have questions about our financial priorities. The three major areas of expense are:

Conference Center (includes meeting spaces, lodging and food) - It is difficult to find a truly affordable retreat center that we can have to ourselves, that is near a major airport and can accomodate up to 80 persons. Our conference center costs about $27,000 this year.
Programming - We pay honoraria, travel, food and lodging for every cross-class presenter. We also provide a leadership training workshop for returning attendees who will be small group leaders. We're planning to pay about $13,400 for presenters in 2008.
Planning - In addition to administrative overhead, we hire an event planner to assist the all-volunteer planning committee with running the logistics of the retreat. In 2008, we've significant reduced the budget and scope of work for this event planner. This year, we've expecting this to cost between $17,000 and $19,000.

In total, the cost of putting MMMC on this year is expected to be $1,400 per person, or $91,643 total. For 2008, we hope to fundraise about $800 of this $1,400 per person cost, or about $52,200. We fundraise from past participants, foundations, and supporting allies. This leaves an average of at least $600 per person needed from registration fees directly, for a total of $39,000. If more participants step up in paying our full share of the cost of the conference, this could enable us to not be dependent on progressive foundations that could better use their resources to support communities without wealth.
