We invite you, if you are willing and able, to donate to Making Money Make Change. MMMC is a truly unique space. Your support will help ensure that it continues to be a resource and inspiration for young people with wealth. Please consider contributing today online or by check. All donations are tax-deductible.
It takes a lot of resources to put on MMMC (see cost breakdown). But it is an investment that is well worth it! Measured simply in dollar terms, MMMC has inspired hundreds of young people with wealth to develop social justice-oriented giving plans that have redistributed millions of dollars. But MMMC's benefits go far beyond philanthropic contributions. Using skills and understandings learned at MMMC, young people with wealth are building authentic cross-class relationships, strategically sharing their privilege and power, engaging in social entrepreneurship, organizing more young people with wealth, and developing innovative partnerships with social justice movement organizations and communities. Many of these young people credit MMMC with catalyzing their movement "from isolation to action."
Over the past few years, we have made a deeper commitment to build intentionally with the people who support and challenge us through workshops and plenaries at MMMC and other Resource Generation gatherings. One way we fulfill our commitment to the cross-class community we are trying to create is to offer all MMMC speakers and presenters who don't identify as wealthy a stipend of $300, along with an invitation to attend the full conference as an active participant. The funds needed to cover registration, room/board, travel and a stipend for each presenter are very challenging to raise, as this is not a common practice across the broader field of philanthropy.
MMMC began as a joint initiative of Resource Generation, Third Wave Foundation, Tides Foundation, and the Funding Exchange. The partnership between these four organizations has built MMMC into the strong community it is today, and in the process the conference - and the organizations - have evolved to a place where it now makes sense for MMMC to become an official Resource Generation program, rather than a separate entity.
This is a moment of transition for MMMC, and an exciting one! But this transition requires additional work, time, and money, Resource Generation leaders have devoted a great deal of thought and energy to reducing our budget given a very challenging fundraising landscape. At the same time, we are committed to supporting our partners at the same level. Building a sustainable cross-class community means we all have to step up, give, receive and engage consistently with each other.
We invite you to give to MMMC. Giving to MMMC helps ensure community support and sustainership of the conference, helping us move away from relying on foundation funding that should be going to communities with less access to wealth. A donation to MMMC also helps provide starter funds for the following year’s conference.
Whatever you can contribute is greatly appreciated!
"It has been five years since my first MMMC, though I remember it like yesterday. It stands out as THE most intentional, personal development conference I have ever been to. I think it was so monumental for me because it was the first time where my class privilege, queer and social justice identities met and were engaged, together, in the same space. It was liberating and eye opening and helped crystallize and shape the white ally activist and donor organizer I have become. "
