Registration Fee

The registration fee covers:

Lodging (double rooms)
Meals
Conference Center
Programming (honoraria, travel, food and lodging for
every cross-class presenter)
Planning - (event planner to assist the all-volunteer planning committee
with running the logistics of the retreat)

Recommended Fees

We are asking all participants to contribute between $400 and $1,400 for registration. That wide spread recognizes the diverse financial positions of those attending MMMC.

The Making Money Make Change 2008 conference costs over $1,400 per person to put on (see the full cost break-down). We are asking participants to pay as much of this amount as they can. We recognize that members of the MMMC community have diverse financial positions, and many could not afford this registration cost. In order to make the conference affordable to as many potential participants as possible, we've put considerable energy into fundraising from foundations, past conference participants, and supporting allies. Here's a basic and rough breakdown of four possible registration cost tiers you could choose from:

$400: Those without wealth. This lower registration cost might be more appropriate for participants who don't currently have access to wealth. Many people who attend MMMC expect to inherit wealth in the future, are a part of family foundations, or grew up in families with wealth, but might currently have difficulty affording a full registration costs.
$600: First-time attendees. For other participants attending MMMC for the first time, we recommend $600. Attending a conference like MMMC for the first time can be a major and difficult step for a progressive young person with wealth. We are rarely encouraged to invest resources in developing our own understanding as progressive young people with wealth in broader social, racial, and economic justice movements, and it can be difficult to see how valuable it could be. We've lowered this basic registration cost from last year in hopes of reducing the barriers to new participants.
$750: Returning participants. For people returning to MMMC after participating in past years, we ask for $750. As people who have attended MMMC in the past and recognize its value in our lives to our movements, it makes sense for us to take on a larger part of its costs, and begin to shift financial responsibility for the conference away from the progressive social change foundations we rely on for fundraising.
$1,400: For those who can afford the full per-person cost. If you can afford it, we ask participants to contribute the full per person cost of $1,400. Right now, MMMC is subsidized and supported by progressive foundations that are leading the way in supporting grassroots movements for change. In the long-term, it makes sense for us as progressive young people with wealth to take on the cost of the retreat, and help foundations instead move the resources they put into MMMC into grassroots movements. Optional Private Room Fee ($150)

The double rooms at IONS are on the compact side. At a slightly higher fee, IONS can accommodate those who prefer or need a private room. If you need a private room and the higher fee is a barrier for you, please let us know: info@makingmoneymakechange.org
